Chicago-area illustrator/postermaker Jay Ryan is an old friend. He’s a craftsman with great visual style and more than his fair share of imagination, and you can see tons of his work at The Bird Machine. For years Field Notes has been looking for a way to collaborate with Jay.
During October, Jay set himself a goal of creating one small ink illustration each day. These drawings revealed a story about a bear and his squirrel neighbors. Field Notes followed Jay’s progress on Instagram, and found the drawings irresistible. They knew that they’d look great in a special Field Notes edition. Jay agreed. He revealed the bear’s name is Haxley, and that this story is sort of a preamble to a larger project that he’s been kicking around for years.
Our Cavalry Collection embodies three principles: briskness, toughness, and reputation.
All our Cavalry goods are sewn with an industrial sewing machine instead of traditional hand-stitching. This allows us to sew our goods faster, but you will not get choose your thread color.
Efficiency helps us keep our costs down and our production high. You will notice that our Cavalry goods cost less than their hand-sewn counterparts and ship much sooner. Typically a hand-sewn wallet will take 1-3 weeks to make versus 3-5 business days. This is a great option if you are looking for a last-minute gift.
All our goods are made in-house in British Columbia, Canada by local artisans. We stand behind our Cavalry collection and guarantee that you will love our work. We have a "No Hassle" return policy and lifetime guarantee.
